If you're already planning on renovating your basement, make sure you install full-wall fibre glass batt insulation to help qualify for a grant of up to $1,000. The grant is based on the percentage of surface area insulated, which must be a minimum of 20 per cent of a basement's wall surface. Installing insulation in the basement can be a do-it-yourself project for any homeowner. Try using R-20 PINK Fiberglas® batt insulation from Owens Corning for your basement insulation projects. It's made in Canada using 60 per cent recycled content* and provides optimal thermal resistance.
Exterior Walls
This retrofit provides the greatest incentive in the insulation category and can enable a homeowner to gain up to $1,500. This grant is based on the percentage of the surface area insulated, which must be at least 20 per cent of the total exterior wall surface. To get a maximum reimbursement for this renovation, an additional R-9 must be added to the existing wall. You can help achieve this using PINK Extruded Polystyrene Foam insulation, which is lightweight, yet strong, and helps reduce heat loss through stud walls.
Remember that all upgrades and renovations must meet local codes and bylaws and before you begin a retrofit, research appropriate products and installation techniques to ensure that your home's building envelope and indoor air quality will not be compromised. You will also need to hire an energy consultant to identify which areas of your house will most benefit from added insulation in order to qualify for an ecoENERGY grant.
