Did you know? Commonly associated with the three wise men bearing gifts for the baby Jesus, frankincense has been documented in early Ayurvedic texts as being able to treat conditions such as digestive disorders, respiratory ailments and joint diseases. More commonly linked throughout history with spiritual and religious qualities, this aromatic resin is widely burnt on altars and in places of worship as it imparts a sense of tranquility and has the ability to dispel fears, paranoia and nightmares. (FYI: Ayurveda is the ancient Indian medical science, the origin of which can be traced back to the Vedas, which are the oldest available classics of the world. Vedas are the ancient books of knowledge, or science, from India.)
Holiday Style with Attitude
Want to inject a little attitude into your Christmas cheer this year? Decorate your home with a theme that reflects and personifies your holiday attitude and personal spirit.
- For the diva, think Marilyn Munro and decorate with white boas weaved throughout the boughs of your tree and along the fireplace mantel. Cover the tree with white and silver ornaments, tiny white hand mirrors and mirrored balls: anything that adds lots of glitz and glamour. A holiday diva lights a plethora of white candles – even when she’s home alone. Remember, the more it glitters and shines the more it reflects your diva attitude!
- Sleek and sophisticated looks work with an Asian inspiration. Weave yards of black satin ribbon amongst the evergreen boughs of your tree, and from the branches, hang gold ball ornaments, Chinese symbols and pairs of chopsticks tied with thin red ribbons.
- Under the spell of Harry Potter? Deck the tree and the halls with star-patterned ribbon in shades of blue, silver and gold. Add star-shaped ornaments, crystal balls and mini wizard hats and nestle eye glasses and spell books in the branches. Top the tree off with a wizard hat (check in your Halloween costume box).
- Celebrate man’s best friend with a little pooch décor. Yards of plaid ribbon, Milk Bone biscuits tied with ribbon and mini puppy ornaments fill this tree. Beneath the tree, set a soft cuddly stuffed animal (the real dog will never sit here long enough).
- Miss the ’50s? Decorate with yards of black-and-white-checked ribbon, turquoise ornaments and guitar ornaments. Old 45 records can be laid in and amongst the branches of your tree. An Elvis or Betty Boop doll can top off the tree, while a tree skirt made from an old poodle skirt wraps the base of the tree.
- Pining for your bike? Relax; there are only a few more months until riding season returns. To pass the time, decorate with biker attitude. Use black leather for a tree skirt (alternatively, black vinyl will leave you more money for bike parts next riding season and still give you the same effect). Add chrome and silver ornaments, as well as mini Harley tree ornaments.
Decorating with a theme is fun and adds personality to your holiday décor. Passion for the holidays and a personal sense of style will make your festive decorating simply sensational.
