Happy New Year everyone! As much as we have enjoyed last year, we look forward to 2008 and all the possibilities a new year can hold.
As we move forward into the new year, we look for ways to improve our health, love life and wealth. And while most of us break the resolutions we have made after a few weeks – yes, those extra few pounds are still on my hips and, no, I did not make it to the gym four times a week last year – it is my belief that by making a few changes to our home we can improve all of these areas and stick to our resolutions.
Let’s start with those extra pounds. One of the biggest causes of overeating is stress. The remedy is obvious and in your own home – decorate to calm and reduce anxiety. Design a space that is peaceful and tranquil, a space that will calm your nerves and reduce your stress level the moment you walk through the front door.
Not all spaces need be tranquil, so choose your tranquil spaces thoughtfully. Perhaps the bedroom, the ensuite and the living room are three good rooms with which to begin.
Paint the walls a soothing shade of cream such as Benjamin Moore’s Stone Harbour or Shelburne Buff. Or choose a soothing shade of pale blue, such as Buxton Blue. Next, add textures to the room that comfort the body, such as chenille, flannel, brushed cotton, sheepskin or a faux fur. Sisal and woven rattans are also comforting textures.
