Hi,
I have requested estimates for a basement reno. It is unfinished, so basically want to put a bathroom and finish the basement and the laundry room. Does this require a permit and if so, is it my responsibility or the contractor. The contractors have all asked me if I am going to get the permit. What liability does that leave me with, if they get vs. me?
Thank you

Hello and welcome to eRenovate.com!
Depending on the scope of work, you might need the permit. If you are moving or adding any structural walls/posts/beams. Any electrical will require the permit.
Liability for the work will be on the contractor performing the work.
You should get signed contract and they should carry both Liability Insurance and WSIB if they have employees.Do not go for the cheapest price since it may cost you more at the end. Make sure that everything that you are planing is listed in the scope of work.
